REPORT: Waves vs. Westpark 2016

The Woodbury Waves once again showed off their strong swimming skills in their final dual meet of the season against the Westpark Marlins. There were 60 swimmers with ISL qualifying times in 151 events. 78 swimmers posted time improvements. The Waves took first through fifth place in the 9-10 and 13-14 boys butterfly, 13-14 boys backstroke and 13-14 boys breaststroke. The 5-6 girls, 7-8 girls, 13-14 boys and 15-18 boys took first place in all of their individual events. The following age groups also earned first place finishes: 5-6 boys butterfly, 9-10 boys butterfly, 11-12 butterfly, 15-18 girls butterfly, 11-12 girls backstroke, 15-18 girls backstroke, 9-10 girls 100 individual medley, 9-10 boys individual medley, 11-12 boys individual medley, 15-18 girls individual medley, 11-12 boys breaststroke, 13-14 girls breaststroke, 11-12 girls freestyle and 11-12 boys freestyle.

Joey Nesland (6) and Kristine Nguyen (15) finished first in all three of their individual events. Waves swimmers earning one or more first place ribbons were Justin Aoki (15-18 boys freestyle), Gabriel Chen (11-12 boys 100 individual medley), Troy Hill (9-10 boys breaststroke), Justin T. Kim (13-14 boys butterfly), Ryan Lee (15-18 boys butterfly), Tiffany Lee (13-14 girls breaststroke), Nathan Lo (5-6 boys butterfly), Kevin Lu (11-12 boys butterfly), Lily Nesland (7-8 girls backstroke and freestyle), Dustin Nguyen (15-18 boys 100 individual medley and breaststroke), Nick O’Neill (15-18 boys freestyle), Justin Pai (13-14 boys backstroke and breaststroke), Ashley Pham (11-12 girls backstroke and freestyle), Elijah Saito (9-10 boys 100 individual medley), Ryan Shattuck 13-14 boys freestyle), Kia Sowlati (13-14 boys 100 individual medley), Gwyneth Stanisai (5-6 girls backstroke), Emese Szekely (7-8 girls butterfly and breaststroke), David Woo (11-12 boys breaststroke and freestyle) and Ruth Wu (9-10 girls 100 individual medley) also earned first place in one or more of their individual events.

Justin Kim, Grant Kramer, Diya Kumar, Elliott Leblond, Kamille Le, Addy Ngo, Avery Ngo, Nicholas Puckett, Peyton Shim and Kasra Sowlati all earned second place ribbons.

Relay teams which took first place were: Lily Nesland, Emese Szekely, Blake Chen and Addy Ngo in 7-8 100 mixed medley; Grant Kramer, Ruth Wu, Troy Hill and Peyton Shim in 9-10 200 mixed medley; Ashley Pham, David Woo, Kevin Lu and Allison Kramer in 11-12 200 mixed medley; and Justin T. Kim, Justin Pai, Kia Sowlati and Amira Zayed in 13-14 200 mixed medley.

Waves swimmers who posted time improvements in three events were David Bae, Julian Barnes, Siena Bernal, Neil Chaudhry, Gabriel Chen, Galileo Chen, Rykyn Fann, Justin T. Kim, Elliott Leblond, Tiffany Lee, Ashley Pham, Nicholas Puckett, Peyton Shim, Derek Vovan and Emily Yeh.

Swimmers who posted time improvements in two events were Ryan Austin, Brandon Chung, Tristan Chung, Ally Hamiprodjo, Amy Kim, Maddy Kim, Diya Kumar, Julian Lai, Adam Lam, Kamille Le, Autumn Lentz, Ryan Le, Kristen Lew, Nathan Lo, Kevin Lu, Brianna Michaelis, Avery Ngo, Elijah Saito, Ryan Shattuck, Skylar Shim, Kasra Sowlati, Kia Sowlati, Barnie Szekely, Emese Szekely, Kendra Tomala, Sophia Williams, John Woo and Amira Zayed.

Jake Hamiprodjo, Brianna Michaelis, Kendra Tomala, Derek Vovan and Connor Williams all posted time improvements of five seconds or more.

Waves swimmers with ISL qualifying times in two events are Noah Fong, Julian Lai, Nick Oneill, Holden Pimentel and Ella-Blue Wilmot.

Champs Volunteer Signups

Per our Volunteer Agreement, every family’s volunteer hours for the Champs meet are above and beyond those of the regular season meets.

The volunteer roles for Champs will open for signup on Wednesday, July 27 at 8:00pm. Please use your personal link from earlier in the season to choose and sign up for your desired role. If you are not signed up by next Wednesday, August 2 at 8:00pm – when the signups close – you will be placed in an available role.
